I don’t like science fiction, but the trailer seemed interesting, so I decide to see what all this craze is about. Well, Alex Pettyfer is handsome and also attracted my attention.
So, let’s go back to the movie which carries the daunting title ‘’I am number four’’. The movie seems to be a combination of a teenage film, some nuances of the successful ‘Twilight’ formula and pure science fiction. Well, I have said that it tries to be, but it cannot merge some genres and storylines in order to be better than them. My personal opinion is that it’s a waste of time, especially if you don’t like science fiction just like me.
Three of them are dead. He is Number Four.
The movie follows the story of John Smith (Alex Pettyfer), 15-year-old alien from the planet Lorien. John, a young and charismatic alien, has extraordinary power and mind. John is one of nine child survivors on earth who struggle to find a new life after their plant Lorien was destroyed by a murderous race of Mogodorians. The aliens are constantly on the run and lead an isolated life. All charming teenage aliens make up the Garde, living on Earth. The Garde consists of all Loriens who have special powers. The teenagers are protected by a charm and therefore they can be killed only in a set order. John is Number Four. After three were killed by the disgusting creatures Mogodorians, John changes his identity and moves from town to town with until his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant). Consequently, they find the town of Paradise of Ohio. There John meets Sarah and quickly falls in love. Would John continue being the kid without having a past? John’s relationship with Sarah makes him reveal his new powerful abilities and relation to the others that share his unfortunate destiny. Would John manage to save his life, love and present?
The movie is a mixture of a thriller, action and science fiction. Even though all stars are pretty attractive and they all did a great job, I am not impressed with the storyline. There are too many similarities between ‘I am number four’’ and ‘’Twilight’, so the presence of a young, sexy person who is not like the others is the first thing that I don’t like. Secondly, the love affair is easily predictable.
Admittedly, the effects in ‘’I am number four’’ make you watch the whole movie, but there are not something that is crucial for the plot itself.
I enjoy an action movie from time to time with my boyfriend and we just saw this, this past weekend and I enjoyed it. It was jam packed with action however the plot could have been a little better. If you like action movies just for the action factor, this movie is for you!
