Beastly

Do you love watching ‘Twilight’ and ‘’Gossip Girl’’? This is your movie then, you will definitely like it.
‘Beastly’ is the new movie, starring my favourite actor Alex Pettyfer, and perhaps he is the only reason why I have decided to watch the film. The other reason is that a genuine review will always do if you are dubious about the quality of a movie.
As far as the genre is concerned, I can say that ‘Beastly’ is a mixture of teen, romance and fantasy. It sounds promising, having in mind that it is rewritten on the basis of the eternal fairy tale ‘’Beauty and the Beast’’. If you don’t remember the fairy tale, let us remind you that the focus is a handsome prince who turns into a beast after a fairy casts a spell on him in order for him to find out that it’s the inner beauty which really matters. Well, he is a furry beast who has only a year to find the true love and regain his good-looking appearance or he will stay a beast forever! It sounds really compelling, however, the contemporary story doesn’t focus on the subject matter or at least the director didn’t manage to find the essence of the fairy tale. I don’t want to judge them, but point out that presumably it’s normal to exclude the serious part, having in mind the craze about Twilight and Gossip Girl, movies that win the hearts of teenagers and youngsters.

Love is never Ugly- Beastly- Plot

‘Beastly’ is based on a novel by Alex Flinn. It tends to show that the love is what one should be looking for. The beauty is not the major reason why we fall in love with someone. Hmm, a movie, starring good-looking faces, cannot prove this point.
Alex Pettyfer /you cannot be ugly and you know it / is starring Kyle, a rich and attractive young man who is selfish and disrespectful. Kyle’s careless father, a TV anchorman, taught his good-looking son that it’s all about the appearance and vanity. Kyle is popular among other students and he always receives what he wants. He is determined to be the best in every aspect of vanity. Also, he has contempt for all teenagers who are not of his standard. His great life is endangered after he behaves cruelly and disrespectfully with Kendra, a goth girl who is told to be a witch. After Kyle crossed the line, Kendra curses the one thing that he takes pride in..his lovely appearance. Could you guess the continual of the story? Kyle is condemned to be an ugly beast until he finds somebody to love him for his personality and soul. I don’t think that scars and tattoos can make somebody ugly, but this is what the movie tells about it. Even though Kyle is hideous, it’s not difficult to recognize his good looking face, so it’s weird why the beauty of our so called beast, Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens), a nice girl from school, cannot recognize him after he has mysteriously disappeared from the school.
I have found the singing teapots in the movie which is a pity. I think that they might have used those elements which are typical of the original story ‘Beauty and the beast’. Also, Beastly doesn’t address any of the fundamental flaws in the plot.
I am puzzled why nobody questioned the magic the witch used to curse Kyle. Do we have many witches nowadays? Yes, it seems odd, because a contemporary fairy tale should be properly related to the reality.
My unbiased opinion- you should watch ‘Beastly’ if you like teenage-like movies and adorable actors. Yet, don’t expect too much of the storyline, because it certainly misses some essentials. Provided that you are looking for a mature romance, then check out something else or watch ‘No strings attached’.
