‘Eat, pray, love’ is a movie which leaves many controversial thoughts. It seems to serious, but you should mull over the true essence of the movie. ‘Eat, pray, Love’, starring the charismatic Julia Roberts, is based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.
A colleague of mine told me that you should read the book in order to understand the movie. Perhaps she is right, because actually the movie is a particle of the original idea. I was intrigued by the performance of Julie Roberts and admittedly she does a great job. Another benefit from the movie is the series of spectacular landscapes which I may never see. Well, I have been to Venice and as an European girl things seem familiar to me. There is something sensual when it comes to Italy and Italians. Bali inspires the imagination and sooths the mind. India represents the wisdom and purity. I have the feeling that as a typical US movie, ‘Eat, pray, love’ overlooks the real aspect of usual things in these countries. Some of them are poverty, sickness, starvation and the evil spirits of some locals. This should be my foreword before the real synopsis begins, but it seems that the wise thoughts obsessed my mind, so you will forgive me.
Plot Outline
If you don’t wish to read the whole review, but are curious to know what Julia Roberts might like in this movie so as to play the role of Liz, I will tell you that it’s all about the pursuit of happiness and self-esteem.
Liz Gilbert seems a happily married woman that has everything in her life. She has been trying to get pregnant, however, she decided to start from a scratch and get divorced. She undergoes a painful divorce before she heads for the journey of her life. Do you need to change the direction of your life to find yourself and all those things that bring happiness? It’s a topic that concerns everybody, so I think that this is the reason why the movie has gained popularity.
‘Eat, pray, love’ recounts the personal journey of a beautiful Liz who also leaves her job and home in order to find the wonderful world of happiness, fulfilment and the meaning of her life.
Italy is her first stop where she enjoys delicious cuisine and friendly local people. Then she takes off Ashram in India where she strives to control her thoughts and find a way to forgive herself.
Bali is the piece of heaven where she meets a wise medicine man who teaches her how to truly enjoy the life. Also, Liz finds the true love. Even though she overlooks the opportunity to be with her new partner, because she is uncertain about their future, she manages to overcome her problems and give a light to her new life.
Summary
My opinion is that everybody needs to watch this movie and find their grain of truth. I cannot judge Liz’s behaviour and way of life, so it’s up to you to decide whether this is what you are looking for. I mean that I am constantly search for a change and it’s likely to do the same, however, sometimes we need to appreciate the positive things in our life, think about what we really want and show our affection about the others who make our day. Do I sound wiser than before? Is this the movie that changed my point of view? I don’t think so, but it helped me like the ordinary things in my life. Let me finish with a statement from the movie which is everlasting in my mind: ‘Ruin is a gift; ruin is the road to transformation.’’
Eat Pray Love
Eat Pray Love

A chick flick, yes. But it seems interesting
I agree that “Eat, Pray, Love,” is very controversial. It makes you think, though and with an actress like Julia Roberts in the movie, it is worth watching. A lot of people can also identity with the story line of “Eat, Pray, Love,” movie. So it comes off as being personal.
Oh I just adore Julia Roberts! What a talented actress she is. This looks like a great movie that I’ll have to check out. Well written review about it!
